Rural Surrounds

The fertile rolling hills surrounding Koonwarra are prime dairy country with South Gippsland supplying 20% of Australia's milk production from 700 dairy farms.

Milk tankers are a familiar site on the roads.  Market gardens are another prominent rural activity with crops such as snow peas growing in abundance.  There are also several wineries only minutes from Koonwarra offering superb cool climate wine tastings.

Koonwarra is nestled in trees and is a relaxing village to stroll around.  However, venture outside the village itself and you will soon appreciate the rolling hills and farmlands that surround it and realise why it is a favoured place to live.

 A Mystic Lake covering Koonwarra

South Gipsland is known for its sunsets but for those who rise early the sunrises can also be spectacula.

A short drive through Meeniyan and out to Dumbalk will bring you to Loves Lane and views like this from Mardan.  Koonwarra is truly in a beautiful part of our wonderful country.

The Great Southern Rail Trail is a delight for locals and tourists alike.  Apart from a small section between Koonwarra and Meeniyan it is now possible to walk, cycle or horseride from Leongatha to Foster, a trip of  37 kms.  The sights range from views of The Prom to areas of trees and  open farmlands.

A visit to the beautiful South Gippsland will amaze and surprise you and you will leave feeling revitalised and refreshed, vowing to come again.
